Scrip (Gift Cards)

An example of how this works -- if you submit an order form and a check for $100, you get $100 in gift cards. However, if the vendor were offering a 5% discount, you would get $5 deposited directly into your student’s account. In other words, you get all of the money you spend in the form of goods/services and the retailer donates a percentage of your business to your student account. Think of it as free money!

Getting started is easy. There are hundreds of gift cards to choose from – gas cards, store cards, retailers, restaurant cards, some starting at just $5. The order form is distributed at monthly Music Patron meetings and is posted on the website (www.FHSMusic.org). Fill in the order form and indicate which type and denomination of gift cards/certificates you would like to purchase. Enclose a check (or checks) payable to “FHS Music Patrons”. The order can then be mailed, dropped off, or handed in at the monthly Music Patrons meeting to Rob Voigt (the grocery & scrip program administrator). After the published pick up date, pick up the gift cards or certificates on at the house of one of our two distribution parent volunteers. Then go shopping and purchase goods and services just like any other gift cards or prepaid cards.

New!! Online Ordering
One of our long standing FHS Music Patrons student account fundraisers is our scrip program, which allows families to buy discounted gift cards with the proceeds going to music student accounts. Starting this month, our FHS Music Patrons scrip program is getting “upgraded” and will be accepting online orders. We hope to transition everyone to online ordering by the May scrip order cycle.

For our scrip program, we use a vendor called Great Lakes Scrip Company to supply the gift cads and they provide a free online ordering process called “Shop with Scrip”. The primary advantages of ordering online include: ability to order scrip/gift cards from any internet location, access to all gift card vendors (our monthly order form only lists the more popular ones), easy to use “shopping cart” order process, tracking history for your purchases, and shortened order time cycle. In addition, online ordering makes it easier on the individual(s) who handle our scrip program by reducing data entry tasks and administration (an important consideration, since we I be transitioning this fundraising program to a new scrip administrator over the next few months).

Initially, we will be using the online “Shop with Scrip” just for placing orders; effectively replacing our hardcopy monthly order form. As we roll out this new process even if you place your order online you must still write a check to “FHS Music Patrons” to cover your purchase. However, we expect to be offering an online payment process (called PrestoPay) shortly that will make payments easier by allowing you to transfer payment directly out of your personal checking account. Once we add that feature, scrip purchases that do not require shipping (such as gift card reloads and e-gift [email based] cards) will be available with one business day turnaround. While only some of the current gift card vendors offer gift card reloads (sorry Speedway and Panera are not yet on the list!), more vendors are supporting the reloads and e-gift cards each month. Even if you are ordering gift cards that need to be shipped, we’re expecting the online process to reduce the administrative tasks and make everything go quicker, shortening the time between order placement and gift card delivery. Placing orders online is just the first step in making our scrip program fundraiser even easier to use to help build up student account balances.
